WALTER
BAGEHOT
3 Feb. 1826 - 24 Mar. 1877

Walter
Bagehot was a British journalist who wrote extensively about
economics and government policy. He was an early editor of
The Economist, a business magazine still published
today (since 1843).
Bagehot wrote numerous books, including an 1867 tome (The
English Constitution) which explored the differences
between the British and American systems of government.
Bagehot was one of the first to discuss the concept of a business
cycle, and his writings on monetary institutions (central
banks) influenced later institutions, including the Federal
Reserve System and the International Monetary Fund. |
