CLEVELAND COXE
10 May 1818 - 20 Jul 1896

Bishop
of the Protestant Episcopal Church, born in Mendham, New Jersey.
Coxe graduated from New York University in 1838, from the
General Theological Seminary in 1841, and served as rector
at various churches until 1863. He became bishop of Western
New York in 1865.
Coxe wrote several small volumes of poetry and a handful of
theological works. A few of his hymns are found in many collections.
