JEAN
JACQUES ROUSSEAU
28 Jun 1712 - 2 Jul 1778

Swiss-born
philosopher of the Enlightenment "whose political ideas
influenced the French Revolution, the development of socialist
theory, and the growth of nationalism." (Wikipedia)
Rousseau's autobiography Confessions was one of the
first of its kind, in that it focused not on religious experiences
(as in St. Augustine's Confessions and St. Teresa's
Life of Herself), but on personal views and feelings.
