Catholic
saint born in a provincial Roman town in North Africa, responsible
for formulating and preserving many longstanding traditions
and beliefs of Western Catholicism.
St. Augustine's Confessions is believed to be the
first true western autobigraphy. It is to this day an important
theological work.
St. Augustine was canonized in 1303. He is the patron saint
of brewers, painters, theologians, sore eyes, and numerous
towns and cities.
